Diedra Summers

Marketing Assistant

I was born in Grand Junction, Colorado, but my family moved to St. Joseph when I was 8 years old so I consider myself to be a St. Joe native. People are typically surprised to learn that I have 3 sisters and 3 brothers. When we're all together it's loud and there's LOTS of laughter. There's an age range between the oldest and youngest of around 15 years, and I sit somewhere near the middle. I have the distinct privilege of knowing what it's like to be a big sister and a little sister, to have a big brother and a little brother, and to have a big sister and a little sister. I consider that little piece of trivia to be the biggest contributing factor as to why, given enough time, it's  relatively easy for me to figure out how to get along with most anybody.

My biggest joy is my own little family. My husband and I have been married for 16 years and have 3 beautiful children. Between soccer, volleyball, basketball, and various other activities, we stay quite busy. Our favorite thing to do together as a family is go camping- ideally, near water. My husband and I like to say we're "in the sweet spot". While we have enjoyed all the stages of raising our children, right now life is about as close to perfect as it gets. At ages 14, 11, and 10, we are well beyond things like diaper changes, booster seats, nap-time, and temper tantrums yet they are still young enough to still enjoy doing things together as a family, like taking a bike ride. Life is so good right now!

I am a graduate of Lafayette High School and Missouri Western State University. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Marketing Emphasis in 2001 and spent the first several years in the workforce in the retail industry. When we had our first child we decided retail hours didn't work for us so I took a position with American Family as a Customer Billing Specialist and enjoyed it immensely. A few years later, our second child was born and we decided the best thing for our family was for me to be a stay at home mom. It was the most challenging and most rewarding "job" I have ever had and I don't regret that choice for one single moment. Over the years I have been able to volunteer lots of hours at our children's school, go on field trips, and be at home with them when they were sick. We consider ourselves very blessed to have been in a position to live on a single income so I could be at home with our children.

In 2014 I had just begun contemplating going back to work when the perfect job opportunity fell in my lap. I have been in digital marketing, specifically in real estate, ever since. I cannot express how much I love my "job". (Is it really a job if you love it?) Lorrie and I connected through a mutual friend several months ago and I immediately liked her. What struck me most was how down to Earth and genuinely nice she is. I couldn't help but want to be a part of her team, and the rest is history. It's been a pleasure to work alongside Lorrie, Jan, and Christi and I can't wait to see what the future holds for this outstanding team of ladies!
