We’re right around the corner from starting a new school year. Whether you’re moving to the St. Joseph area or are currently displeased with the school your child attends, it might be time to shop for a new school. Although the St. Joseph area has the St. Joseph, Savannah, East Buchanan, and Mid-Buchanan public school districts; some people might prefer a private school. Here are all of the private schools in St. Joseph, Missouri to serve your Kindergarten-aged thru high school-aged child’s needs.
Early Education
Somewhat recently, the first Montessori school opened in St. Joseph. Independent Child Montessori School offers education for children aged 18 months-6 years old. This means your child would be able to have several years of preschool and then Kindergarten following the Montessori curriculum.Another bonus to Independent Child Montessori is that it’s open for full-day education. This is noteworthy because many private preschools only offer half days. Some of the other private preschools listed in the following two sections also offer full-day preschool.
From Preschool Through 6th Grade

If you’re looking for a private school that will be able to educate your child from preschool through 8th grade, you have three main options:As you can probably guess from the name, St. Paul Lutheran School offers children a private school education infused with the Lutheran religion. In addition to offering education for preschoolers through middle schoolers, St. Paul also offers all-day childcare for children 5 and under.
Although the preschool day at St. Paul is a half-day, their childcare program runs the entire day. Before and after school childcare is also offered for children in Kindergarten-6th grade.
St. Joseph Cathedral School and St. Francis Xavier School have many similarities--both are private Catholic schools that offer education from preschool through 8th grade, and both have early education centers. This means your child can go to either of these schools from the time he or she is 6 weeks old through 8th-grade graduation.
From Preschool Through 12th Grade

Two other K-8 religion-based private schools are St. James School and Prescott Seventh-day Adventist Elementary School. As you might guess, St. James is a Catholic school, and Prescott is Seventh-day Adventist. (For those who don’t know, the Seventh-day Adventist Church is a Protestant Christian denomination.)From Kindergarten Through 12th Grade
If you’re looking for a private school that offers education for students from Kindergarten through 12th grade all at the same school, St. Joseph Christian School is the right choice for you. As one of the only non-Catholic (but still Christian) private schools in St. Joseph, St. Joe Christian offers a religious school experience for non-Catholics.From 9th Grade Through 12th Grade
Once children graduate 8th grade from their private Catholic school, they have a big choice to make. Some choose to attend public high school, but many decide to continue their private education at Bishop LeBlond High School. As you might guess from its name, Bishop LeBlond is a Catholic school. In fact, it’s the only Catholic high school in St. Joseph.
